The second race at the 2010 Empire State Games featured three repeat winners from Friday’s sprint race. Saturday’s race was an individual relay, with all skiers competing on the same 6 km course. Skiers were able to use three extra rounds at each shooting stage. Duncan Douglas (Western NY Biathlon) won the Open Men’s class, Deb Nordyke (Saratoga Biathlon) again won the Open Women’s race, and Christian Boger Jr. (Saratoga Biathlon) repeated as Scholastic Boys Champion.

Douglas again won easily despite his two standing penalties, finishing more than three minutes ahead of Tom Moffett (Saratoga Biathlon). Moffett, who also had two penalties was just able to hold off Sean Halligan (Saratoga Biathlon) by 12 seconds.

Jill Koziol (Saratoga Biathlon) won the Master’s women class. Joe Iwan (Saratoga Biathlon) won the Master’s Men race, making up for skiing the wrong course and being disqualified the previous day. Iwan won the race in the range, shooting clean, as silver medalist Rene Harde (Saratoga Biathlon) had a tough day on the range with four penalties. In third was Brian Wieghaus (Saratoga Biathlon) who also shot clean.

The Grand Master’s Men class featured the same three medalist as Friday, with the first two switching places. Russ Myer (Syracuse Biathlon) claimed the gold with a solid shooting performance, while Darwin Roosa (Saratoga Biathlon) took the silver, and Bill DeBois (Saratoga Biathlon) captured his second consecutive bronze medal.

The podium in the Scholastic Boy’s race was a repeat from Saturday’s Sprint. Brian Halligan (Saratoga Biathlon) took the silver  and Will Fieroh (Lake Placid) won the bronze.
