The Tourathon is complete. Despite bitter cold temps hovering in the single digits, a hearty crowd of racers enjoyed blue hard wax conditions at Winona Forest. It was an event for young and old (U6- M10).

In the 50k GHN’ADK Vauhti’s Matt Torniainen got his third straight silver behind Jonathan Ignatowski (3:14:19). Deborah Luan won in 4:55:18

In the 25K, Osceola’s Peter Newell strided on to his second Winona Victory (1:36:08) {last year was in the 12.5K}  Unseating GHN-ADK Vauhti’s Jim Miller who double poled furiously for silver. Joan Newell took gold for the women in (2:11:45)

The 12.5k lost some scholastic racers due to the cold. Only 6 kids finished, 5 boys, 1 girl. Calvin Burke (in the U14 division) won for kids and grownups in (55:49), Oksana Korol won for Women in (1:20:24.3), and completing her first Tourathon Zara Seyse of GHN ADK vauhti skied 12.5K or approximately 25,000 steps in (3:49.13). As the only Jr Female she was guaranteed gold if she finished. That should be good prep work for Bill Koch races to come. Tips for other youngsters giving this a try: a parent with a backpack in case you need it helps but was not necessary today, snacks, fluids, warm layers, hand + toe warmers are a must.- more about her race can be found here:
