New York was well represented at the Jr. / Youth World Championship team trials in Jericho VT this week. We had a total of 9 NYSSRA members compete and the results were great, both for the seasoned veterans and the newer biathletes looking to get experience at the next level.
Saratoga Biathlon Club members Carly Wynn and Sean Doherty (NH) were both victorious in today’s sprint race at Jericho, VT. For Carly it was a clean sweep, she won all three races. Sean overcame a disappointing second race and skied to victory today. Both Carly and Sean were named to the Jr./Youth World Championship team which will compete in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic from January 27 – February 5!!! After the three race series Sean was the second ranked Youth male, and Carly was the top ranked youth female.
Strong performances were also turned in by Brian Halligan (Saratoga) Will Ferioh, Elizabeth Izzo & Alex Goff (LP) Pat Detraglia (Western) Maddie Phaneuf (Polar Bear) & Hillary Saucey (NYSSRA/PA). The group was lead by coaches Art Stegen, Sean Halligan & Carl Klossner.
In addition to the kids, we also saw several NorAm medals go to the older kids too including Jason Hettenbaugh, Marty Maynard & Sean Halligan.
