Syracuse Biathlon Club hosted a mass start race on 1/15/11 at the Osceola Cross Country Ski Center. Overcast sky, with increasing heavy snow. 22 people went off in two heats (if you can call it that in a winter sport), with the boy/girl and grand masters going in one group and everyone else in the other. Boy/Girl, women and men’s grand master skied 10km, and everyone else did 12.2km.
The top three fastest times for the 10km where:
Russ Myer: 0:55:52 (men grand masters)
Brian Wieghaus: 0:57:50 (men grand masters)
Art Stegen: 0:59:35 (men grand masters)
The Monsters of Destruction sent Doug Diehl to bring chaos on the field at 0:55;29 just barely squeaking by Eric Seyes at 0:55:30 (men open), followed by Gary Beck (men masters).
There were some blazing fast boy/girl, novice skiers too: Jessica Snyder 0:51:18 and Matthew Forshey: 0:54:17. Keep an eye on their biathlon careers.
Top shooting for the day, with 14 hits: Russ Myer, Pat Clancy, and Brian Wieghaus.
Check out the Syracuse Biathlon (http://www.syracusebiathlon.com) web site in the next couple days for a complete listing of results.
Once again, thanks to our volunteers who made this event possible and thanks to Hugh Quinn at the Osceola Cross Country Ski Center for excellently groomed trails!
