At the annual NYSSRA Nordic, Inc. Fall Meeting, the XC Committee decided to begin the Club Championship Season early.
The first “race” of the season has just begun, the member club with the most new/renewed NYSSRA members on November 1 wins!
Club leaders, get your club started on the path to the Club Championship… the Race to Membership is on!
In other news:
- Skiers who do Biathlon or Ski-O races will receive participation points towards the NYSSRA XC Points Series.
- The NYSSRA Nordic ESG TourNado is BACK! February 7th to 9th. Once again, the three-stage event will be used to crown NYSSRA TourNado overall champions at the Empire State Games. Friday Feb 7th will feature 2.5 km freestyle racing under the lights at Dewey Mountain. The Saturday Feb 8th stage will have skiers tackling the 20 km distance race in freestyle technique at Mount Van Hoevenberg. On Sunday Feb 9th, the TourNado Finale will test skiers over a 7.5km course at Van Ho in classic technique. As an added feature, the fastest skiers from Friday’s races will be invited to participate in the ESG Sprint final exhibition Saturday evening at the Olympic Oval in downtown Lake Placid. There will be two semi-finals and two finals, one for overall male and one for overall female Sprint champion.
- The Wilkinson Cup Series will feature 5 weekends of double-points races that count towards the NYSSRA Points Series and the Club Championship Series. Five weekends will be part of the Wilkinson Cup Series: 1. The Polar Bear JNQ in Old Forge, January 5-6, 2. The NYSEF Harry Eldridge JNQ Races, Jan 11-12, 3. The RNR JNQ on Jan 18, 4. the NYSSRA ESG TourNado Feb 7-9 and 5. The NYSSRA Championship, March 1-2. The overall winner of the Wilkinson Cup Series will be awarded the perpetual Wilkinson Cup at the NYSSRA Championship in March. Mark your calendars now, you can’t afford to miss the Wilkinson Cup Series.
- The NYSSRA Championships will return to Mount Van Hoevenberg for 2014. The Championships will be hosted by HURT Nordic, and will feature Biathlon, Ski-O and XC Races. Details are still being ironed out, but expect some fun twists to the normal format. For example, the 20 km Classic Champions Cup distance race will most likely have a hill climb finish… if that’s not crazy enough, the Club Championship relay will most likely include a Biathlon leg… stay tuned as HURT works out all of the details for this great event.
