This past weekend was the first 2 of the 5 Mid-Atlantic qualifiers for junior postseason skiing. Results from the first two qualifiers can be found here. Special thanks to the Polar Bear ski club who hosted two great events for all age levels. The conditions were spectacular and the racing was fast and fun. This year, Junior Nationals is held in Stowe, VT and Eastern High School Championships and Eastern (U16) J2 Championship are both very close for New York skiers. These are great trips to continue ski racing beyond the end of the high school racing season and a fun way to meet other junior skiers from around the country.
If you are a junior skier, parent of a junior skier, friend of a junior skier, or see someone walking down the street who may be a junior skier please take a minute and read this information. It will help you plan your winter racing and answer many of your questions.
First of all…the best place to find information about these trips is under the “JUNIORS” tab at the top of this page. Read it carefully as qualification standards have been modified so you may not be up to date on all the information. In a nut shell, this is what you need to know. To qualify for JN’s you need to compete in a minimum of 3 of the 5 JNQ’s. One needs to be classic, the other needs to be skate and the third can be skiers choice. If you want to qualify for the Eastern High School race or the Eastern (U16) trip you need to set aside January 18th for the Rochester qualifier at Bristol Mountain. When you go to that race come prepared to pay a deposit for the trip. Additionally top competitors at the New York State Public High School State Championship Races will receive consideration. If you have individual questions or concerns about either the U16 or EHSC qualifier due to the date, time and location of that one day qualifier please contact Margaret at margm@nysef.org and she will be able to answer your questions. Again, more details can be found about each of these trips under the “JUNIORS” tab. Please read them carefully.
This upcoming weekend will feature two more Junior National Qualifiers in Lake Placid. If you weren’t able to make it to Old Forge you can complete the skate and classic races next weekend and potentially punch your ticket to Stowe. We hope to see you there!
