Arguably, the next two weekends offer some of the biggest races of the NYSSRA season. We hoped you are primed and ready for some great action on some top-quality snow. While the “blizzard of 2015” fell way short of expectations for many of us, there still is a lot of good snow and deep set track for most. So now is the time to sign up for some races and enjoy it.
Jan. 31st. Holland Patent JNQ – This race, while not originally a Junior National Qualifier, has stepped up to fill a void caused by the early season cancellation in Old Forge. Competition will be stiff and the field will be deep in all age groups and it should be a great classic race.
February 1st. Polar Bear JNQ and Wilkinson Cup Series Race #3. – Also newly added to the JNQ calendar to make up for the early cancellation, this skate race will be the final chance for junior athletes to qualify for the 2015 Mid-A Junior National Team and for the Eastern High Championship and U16 Teams. If you are a junior…be sure to come on out and earn some low points! For the rest of the race field the stakes are equally as high. This is the 3rd race in the Wilkinson Cup mini-series and the challenging course at McCauley Mountain should offer some stellar racing conditions.
Feb.4-8 World Masters Games – Interested in going to Quebec to race against international competition? Check the details on our calendar.
Feb. 6-8 Empire State Games – Or just stay local! The ESG-Tournado rolls into Lake Placid for three days of great nordic competition. The Friday sprint at Dewey Mountain is followed by a 20K classic race Saturday and a 7.5 skate on Sunday, both at VanHo. This is weekend #4 of the Wilkinson Cup mini series and the conditions at VanHo have been SOOOO good lately you won’t want to miss it.Register for the games before February 3rd.
Phew….catch your breath before mid-February rolls around. More great skiing action is right around the bend.
