(Editors note: These photos are not from a VT resort but rather this Sunday’s Glenville Hills Classic!)

Conditions at this weekends races were as close to perfect as I have seen in a long time. Glenville lucked out on Sunday with Temps in the high 20’s.

Peru drew a larger crowd and thus raised a healthy sum for 2 worthy causes. Race photos that look far nicer than mine can be purchased here (proceeds go to charity)!

For those that missed it, here is a quick recap: SNL coach Kieth Kogut took out his altimeter and designed a course that maximized climbs and descents.  I would estimate there was about 10′ of flat terrain on this Dewy Mtn course if you count the start area.

Mike Wynn took the top spot, with Jan Wellford close behind. Several minutes back there was a close race for third between Underwood Yarsevich and Seyse.

Heidi Underwood came out on top of a speedy womens field. Rosanne Van Dorn, and Janet Findley took the next two spots.

Sunday’s Glenville Hills classic featured soft slick trails. The deep snow made for easy cornering on the steeper sections of trail. Although race times were a bit slower, the trails felt great to ski on.

There was a rare tie in the Womens field with Mares and Yarsevich (Not Chris, his sister Amy) tying for first.

Winning ran in the Family as Hurt’s Chris Yarsevich had the fastest Men’s time by just over a minute.

The Alberga Brothers from Saranac lake won their respective U16 and U14 distances despite climbing Dewey Mountain 3 times less than 24 hours before.

Scotia’s Paul B. Won his age category and the farthest traveled award for flying over from France to ski in Glenville.

Bill Koch 9:39

The Bill Koch race was not well attended, but one enthusiastic U2 skier did her best for a cookie on the shortest loop of approximately 300 M in 9:24. Not bad with her proud papa slowing her down!

S’mores were enjoyed by the racers, by a nice warm fire.

Up Next: big weekend: Short Lumberjack scramble on Saturday 10KM classic

Very family friendly, course is challenging but not imposing. If you are looking for a loppet warm up or skipping the loppet, this is your short race!

Long: Winona Forest Tourathon: 12.5. 25, and 50KM classic. Nice rolling and flat terrain for a 12.5 Km loop with feed/ warming stations and an after party! If you wan to ski over 10Km and aren’t skiing the Loppet, this is your race!
