Climbing Trail “B” wasn’t exactly an attack on the 3,600 foot summit of Gore Mountain but some Nordic racers thought so during both weekend races. Saturday’s classic and Sunday’s skate races at Gore Mountain Ski Bowl organized by HURT Nordic used a combination of steep hills and sharp downhill turns. There was excellent attendance by school/club teams and the crowds to watch them.
Spectators at the base lodge area were treated to a show of technique by skiers descending the S-turns (left). There was no time for Junior racers ascending “B” (right) to enjoy the view. (Photo by Eric Seyse during his pre-race warm up.)
By the numbers, 111 racers turned out Saturday, Jan. 7 for the Gore Mountain JNQ/Varsity and JV 5K Classic Queensbury Invitational (results) that included an Open/Masters 5K Classic race (results). The Bowl’s superb snow grooming and classic tracks allowed racers to show some fantastic skiing in front of crowds of parents and family members at this spectator-friendly race venue. TV sports news should have been here.
Similarly, 119 racers braved 10-degree temperatures for Sunday’s JNQ 5K /Masters 10K Skate race (results). Thirteen racers did the BKSL 2.5K Skate course (results).
