Registration is live for the Glenville Hills Classic, Which has relocated to Saratoga Biathlon this year and will be a skiathlon format. In the event that weather prevents us from holding the race Saturday, February 18. More laid back citizen racers are welcome too! skiing the classic portion just behind the lycra clad racers is a fun way to get a a timed 5K!
The race will become a skate race and move to Monday February 20th at Maple Ski ridge where the alpine mountain has been holding training days and section races 4-7 PM each Monday. Just ask section 2 skiers. It is a fast fun challenging course.
NYSSRA Champs registration is open, NYSSRA is running the event, and will be modifying the traditional format. We will hold the distance race Saturday and relays Sunday. Plenty of prizes through a raffle such as a wax form and poles as well as small items, and end of season awards.
ESWG’S:
CONGRATULATIONS to all 112 NYSSRA Nordic athletes (Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing and Ski Orienteering) that competed in the 37th Empire State Winter Games. Although we were a small part of this years’ 2,200 athlete field, competition was spirited and the camaraderie of the Nordic community was evident.
It’s widely known that NYSSRA Nordic athletes and their families rarely participate in Thursday night’s opening ceremony. Just not realistic to arrive in Lake Placid on Thursday night for this special experience at the Olympic Center.
The weekend’s “hero” category of performers included coaches, parents, family members, race organizers, the Dewey Mt. / ORDA Mt. Van Hoevenberg / Cascade XC Center venue folks, and volunteers that made eight different races happen. THANK YOU.
As for racing, add them up for a total of 288 race performances in three days. May be not quite like other years, but still impressive. There were performances, GREAT performances and STELLAR performances. It’s often said “everyone is a winner unto themselves.” You decide. Just look at the results.
Biathlon, Cross Country Skiing (via Webscorer, Inc.) and Ski Orienteering are summarized on the ESWG RESULTS page. As always NYSSRA results and Points can be found on our main page.
HURT’s season long streak ended dramatically as NYSEF and Peru Nordic used Home field advantage to bump the HURT squad down to 3rd on the podium for this racing block.
