On March 7th New York Biathlon will run their final race for the season. The final race will be a sprint run on the biathlon side of Mt. Vanhovenburg. Registration can be placed through March 5th on skireg.com/nychampionships. The race distances will be 6 km for U17 and Grand Master Females; 7.5 km for U19, U21 Females, Sr. Females, Master Females, and Grand Master Men; 10 km for U21 Men, Senior Men and Master Men. Entry fee is $25 for this race. Registration is at 8:30, Zero at 9:00 and race start at 10:00.
In the afternoon there will be a Nordic Relay, an approximate 8 km distance for relay teams of two or three people. At this point it appears that there will be two legs of classical skiing, and four legs of freestyle. Ski-O and biathlon will be included for those that are interested in participating. The final lap of the relay is a biathlon lap. All racers must either shoot prone on standing target or if they do not wish to shoot they will be required to carry a pack that weighs approximately 7.5 lbs. This will be the second year for this relay. Last year it worked quite well and all racers appeared to have a great time racing this event. The fee for this race is $15, but if you are racing in the sprint event the entry fee for both races will be $40.
Hopefully you will come out and support this final weekend of racing. There will be a 17.5 km Nordic race on Sunday morning and a Ski-O race on Sunday morning as well. Awards will be given for each class! Remember, you can’t win it if you don’t enter! See you on March 7th!
